Following its successful Off-Broadway run, Theater Go Round in association with NahNotOutsideMyHouse! Productions Inc. has announced the Massachusetts premiere of Mercury: The Afterlife and Times of a Rock God at The Art House Theatre, a new 120-seat theater located at 214 Commercial Street in Provincetown. This limited engagement will run from August 30, 2006 to September 2, 2006.
“Mercury: The Afterlife and Times of a Rock God is a passionate one-man drama about rock icon Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the legendary rock group Queen. His tragic death of AIDS in 1991 had a tremendous worldwide impact since he was the first rock star to publicly acknowledge his illness. In the play, the late Freddie Mercury seeks redemption before a god unimpressed by his celebrity,” state press notes.
Mercury is directed by playwright Charles Messina (Cirque Jacqueline, Be My Love) and stars Amir Darvish (Aida, Two Men In Shoulder Stand). In its previous run, the play drew cult-like attention from loyal fans of Queen.
Writer/Director Charles Messina is best known for his work on the Off-Broadway hit Cirque Jacqueline. Currently, Messina is directing the musical Be My Love, about the life of legendary tenor Mario Lanza, which is being produced by Sonny Grosso and Phil Ramone.
Showtime is 7pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 1-866-811-4111 or visiting http://www.capetix.com . For more information on Charles Messina, visit http://www.nahproductions .com. The play’s running time is 80 minutes with no intermission.
